Welcome to this training activity dedicated to the art of effective communication, which represents the cornerstone of any organization's success and ensures the quality and safety of care provided, especially in the healthcare sector.
In fast-paced work environments, communication gaps are often the hidden root of errors and misunderstandings. Statistics indicate that communication errors contribute to up to 30% of medical malpractice cases, placing this skill at the heart of our priorities for continuous improvement.
Therefore, this activity is designed to help us transition from random communication, or communication based on expectations and assumptions, to purposeful, organized, and clarity-based communication. Together, we will learn about the SBAR model as a practical and effective tool for organizing our thoughts and presenting information in a manner that is both concise and comprehensive. This ensures the message is conveyed as required and reduces the need for repetition.
We will also delve deeper into understanding other elements of communication, from body language and tone of voice—which constitute over 90% of our message's impact—to skills in active listening and dealing with difficult behaviors.
The ultimate goal is to promote a culture of safety and teamwork, where every one of us feels confident to voice their opinion and report their concerns. This positively impacts both the well-being of the work team and the quality of patient care alike.
We wish you a beneficial and productive session.
